Meet the George Pocock Rowing Foundation Crew

Jenn Gibbons, Executive Director
Following her collegiate rowing career at Michigan State University, Jenn moved to Chicago where she began coaching junior athletes at a private preparatory school and later co-founded Recovery on Water (ROW), a rowing team for breast cancer patients and survivors.
Five years after launching ROW, Jenn was hired as the organization’s first full-time staff member; she then spent the next eight years growing the team into a sustainable nonprofit.
Her contributions to the sport have been recognized by USRowing as Masters Coach of the Year in 2011 and more recently with the Anita DeFrantz Award in 2018.

Padraic McGovern, Deputy Director
Padraic began rowing as a youth in Point Pleasant, NJ. After rowing at Saint Mary's College of California, he joined the Seattle rowing community as a sculler. Padraic has competed and coached in youth, collegiate, elite, and master’s programs.
As the Executive Director of the Everett Rowing Association, his focus on culture and communication led to significant growth in membership, youth programming, and fundraising results.
Padraic's experience in the construction industry and at Pocock Racing Shells brings a strategic background to our infrastructure and project management needs. Outside of the boathouse, Padraic enjoys hiking, biking, woodworking, and cooking.

Nell Aiello, Director of Communications and Grants
Nell began rowing the summer before starting college and loved it so much, she immediately joined the crew team in her freshman year at UCLA. Her passion for the sport has resulted in her continuing to row and coach for almost 30 years and inspired her to open an indoor rowing studio, RowFit, in 2009, which exists today under a different name.
Nell's professional experience includes digital marketing, operations, and relationship building. Before moving to WA, Nell spent time in San Diego, earning her Executive MBA. She is a fervent animal lover and outdoor enthusiast. In her spare time, she enjoys doing puzzles, hiking with her family, and drinking a lot of coffee.

Rachael Arand, Event Coordinator and Executive Assistant
Originally from Whidbey Island, WA, Rachael graduated from Gonzaga University in 2019 where she earned her degree in Sport Management with minors in Marketing and Public Relations. She was a college walk-on rower, raced at NCAA's, and spent her senior year working to develop novice athletes.
Rachael began working for the George Pocock Rowing Foundation as a middle school coach and Member Services Representative. She is now the Executive Assistant and Events Coordinator for the Foundation. When not at work, Rachael can be found visiting national parks and spending time with her 3 cats.

Parker Bumstead, Equipment Manager
Parker began rowing in 2012 for the middle school program at the Everett Rowing Association. He has been in love with the sport ever since. After rowing through high school, Parker attended UC San Diego in 2018, where he rowed as a freshman. He then attended the University of Washington from 2019 to 2023, where he graduated with an Earth and Space Sciences degree specializing in Physics. During his time at UW, Parker spent almost three years as a youth rowing coach for novice athletes at Mount Baker Rowing Club and Everett Rowing Association.
After working in the Geotechnical field post-graduation, he is excited to bring his organizational, problem-solving, and technical skills back to the world of rowing through the George Pocock Rowing Foundation.
Outside of the boathouse, Parker enjoys hiking and backpacking through the PNW wilderness as well as cheering for the Seattle Seahawks

Karla Calvo, Programs Coordinator & Learn to Row Coach
Born and raised in El Salvador, Karla started rowing in 2012. By 2014 she had made the Salvadoran National team and participated in events such as PanAmerican games, World Cups and the Latin Olympic qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
While getting her Bachelors Degree in Marketing, she continued as part of the national team, supplemented by coaching new members and kids/new members through learn to row classes.
Karla moved to the USA in 2019 to continue her rowing career while starting her professional career.
Her work experience has been in customer service and marketing, and she is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Her biggest achievement was winning a bronze medal in the quad at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
In her free time Karla likes to spend time with her family, have a good cup of “cafecito con pan dulce” and visit new places in Seattle.

Cameron Young Cooper, Community Giving Manager
Cameron Young Cooper is a dedicated nonprofit leader and fundraiser with a passion for connecting people to the causes they care about. As the Community Giving Manager, Cameron works closely with today’s rowing families and alumni to foster community and create impactful fundraising programs that directly benefit youth athletes.
Inspired by her son’s transformational experience with the Vashon Island Rowing Club, Cameron understands firsthand the life-changing power of rowing. Through initiatives focused on scholarships, equipment funding, and mentorship from Olympians, Cameron is committed to ensuring that more kids have the opportunity to discover their potential on the water.
Most recently, Cameron’s career was shaped by serving as Interim Director of the Vashon Heritage Museum. She brings her deep love for history, community engagement, and storytelling to the GPRF. It is the unwavering belief that all people should be welcome in the Boathouse that inspires Cameron’s work.

Mark Davis, Athlete Support and Retention Manager
Mark helps to build a robust athlete support program while focusing on increasing participation and retention.
Before his time at George Pocock Rowing Foundation, Mark was the Executive Director at the Sammamish Rowing Association for three years and before that a long-time collegiate rowing coach.
When not working, Mark likes to spend time with his family outdoors in the wonderful PNW wilderness hiking and camping. He also listens to a lot of KEXP!

Patty Finney, Administrative Director
Patty began rowing at LaSalle University in Philadelphia and continued her rowing career training at Vesper Boat Club before she decided to move to Montana and, ultimately, Seattle.
Before coming to work at the Pocock Foundation, she was an executive administrative assistant, a human resources generalist, and a bookkeeper. Her wealth of skills in almost every arena of administration keeps the boathouses of the Pocock Foundation in ship-shape.
When not at work, Patty enjoys spending time with her husband, two wonderful children, and friends.

Helen Tilghman, Pocock Youth Rowing Manager & Head Coach
Helen entered the rowing world in 2003 at Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center where she competed as a junior athlete for five years. Her time on Lake Washington continued when she attended the University of Washington, competing for the Huskies from 2008 until 2012.
Before coming to work at the Pocock Foundation, Helen spent a year as an assistant coach with Seattle University's inaugural varsity women's rowing team and also served as the Director of Rowing at Mt. Baker.
When she is not at the boathouse, Helen enjoys spending time with friends in the great PNW outdoors, experimenting in the kitchen, and playing with her dog Finn.

Zoe Vais, Camp Lucy & Coaching Education Mgr.
Zoe Vais grew up in San Rafael, California and moved to Seattle in 2010 to attend the University of Washington where she "walked on" to the rowing team. After her senior year, Zoe graduated and began coaching the UW freshman women as an intern coach.
In 2015, she joined the GPRF staff as an Erg Ed instructor, and Pocock Rowing Center as a novice coach. She spent two years teaching rowing in the Seattle P.E. classrooms, and was trained in sport-based youth development through the Up2Us Coach Americorps program.
Since then, she has continued to coach novice rowers at PRC, and loves everything about helping people try rowing for the first time, or hone their skills on the water. Zoe is excited to rejoin the GPRF on the mission to bring more young people down the boathouse to have enriching experiences on the water!
In her spare time, you can find Zoe hanging at a park, visiting art galleries, or attending music events around the city.
