The GPRF awards 8 grants to regional boathouses
June 24, 2022 – Seattle, WA – The George Pocock Rowing Foundation (GPRF), awarded $67,700 to eight boathouses in the Pacific Northwest region to increase access to rowing for young people.
Since 1984, the GPRF has provided over $500,000 in financial aid support through scholarships, transportation, swim lessons, and more. This grant program was launched in 2022 specifically to empower organizations that are committed to driving inclusivity in and access to the sport of rowing, ensuring that more young athletes are able to find, start and stay rowing within their community.
“Our grantmaking centers around the values we all share and makes a significant impact across the PNW.” Jenn Gibbons, Executive Director of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation shared. “Our goal with this grant funding is to invest in projects and programs that will impact young people’s lives now and in the years to come.”
List of 2022 Grantees:
$9,700 to Tacoma Rowing in support of training for the development of two BIPOC coaches from the Tacoma community and the purchase of a rowing trailer.
$10,000 to Rose City Rowing Club to help repair the barge (damaged in a building collapse) in order to bring more athletes and coaches into the program.
$10,000 to Olympic Peninsula Rowing to support the pouring of the foundation for a boathouse, increasing access to rowing for decades.
$8,000 to Green Lake Crew in support of coaching fees for a new program launched in partnership with Stem to Stern and the Boys and Girls Club.
$10,000 to Everett Rowing Association for help in the establishment of SnoCoRow, a free rowing program for underserved middle-schoolers in Snohomish County.
$10,000 to Vancouver Lake Aquatic Center to assist in the purchase of rowing machines to be shared with the local school district (and Erg Ed programs).
$5,000 to South Eugene Rowing Club in support of new equipment to be used for outreach for underserved athletes.
$5,000 to Kenmore Community Rowing Club in support of training new coaches for the growing youth Northshore community rowing programs.

About the Regional Grants Program
This year, the George Pocock Rowing Foundation launched a new grant program to support youth rowing in the Pacific Northwest. With this grant program, GPRF strives to support regional boathouses in increasing access to rowing. GPRF believes that coaching is key and strives to positively impact a grantee's ability to support current and future athletes.
Grants of up to $10,000 were awarded. In addition to the financial support, GPRF will provide training in partnership with the Center for Healing and Justice through Sport on Trauma-Informed coaching. Each grantee is required to send at least one coach and one person in leadership.
