SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Launched in 2021, Camp Lucy is a free 10-day learn-to-row camp for middle school girls, inclusive of non-binary, trans, and gender non-conforming youth, that uses rowing as a way to learn social-emotional skills and life skills. Inspired by the legacy of Lucy Pocock, Camp Lucy uses fitness and interactive activities to help campers learn about themselves as individuals and as part of a greater team. As Camp Lucy participants learn to try new things, they will gain an "I Can Do That!" mentality, and recognize the many ways that they are strong, powerful, supported, and brave!
The Camp Lucy Manager will use their passion and expertise in sports and youth programming to change young lives, develop future coaches, and build community. The ideal candidate should be energetic, engaging, and creative as a leader and problem solver. The Camp Lucy Manager must be dedicated to creating an inclusive atmosphere for all participants, communicating and implementing program expectations and positive culture, and showing an active interest in getting to know all program youth and their families. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position that puts social change and youth development goals into action, delivering direct programming to youth throughout the year.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Camp Lucy Manager will be responsible for leading the planning and implementation of Camp Lucy in multiple boathouses. The continued success of this program and the adoption of Camp Lucy will depend heavily on the relationships developed between the Manager, athletes, families, and community partners. Additionally, the Manager will contribute to the success of the GPRF as a whole, collaborating with colleagues in different programs to advance the organization’s mission. This position also includes helping with the expansion and scaling of the Camp Lucy program, including traveling to partner boathouses to support Camp Lucy partner sites.
Success in this role one year from now looks like: the successful training of coaches and boathouse leaders running camps with a trauma-informed and athlete-centered approach, a growing group of the alumni network of “Lucies”, and continuing to establish new community partnerships that contribute to the success and sustainability of Camp Lucy.
