Ten Reasons Why You Should Row a marathon for Camp Lucy
February 5th, 2025 marks the annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), a day to celebrate the achievements of girls and women in sports.
In honor of this important day, we're excited to host our fourth annual 26.LU event on February 15th, 2025 in support of Camp Lucy and the brave young women it serves.
Not sure what Camp Lucy is all about? Head to this blog post about the impact Camp Lucy has on young women.
Here are the top ten reasons you should register for 26-point LU today!
1. It's for a really great cause. Camp Lucy is a program with SO much promise because of our ability to test, learn, and scale this program in the future. This year, the program introduced 62 young women to rowing around the Seattle region. We hope to continue growing the program and reach more young women. We hope you'll be part of Camp Lucy's bright future. ☀️
2. This gives you something to train for! It's a jump-start on your New Year's resolutions - you're welcome.
3. It's fun and accessible for everyone. You don't have to train for months to row part of a marathon, and since this is a team event, you can start training on Jan 1 and still crush it on Feb 10. Did we mention there's a training plan? You get one when you register. 😎
4. It's the perfect reason to get together in the new year (you can participate in person or virtually). If you come to Seattle, we'll hook up the ergs and broadcast the marathon on a big screen to show every team's progress. BONUS: We'll have a DJ playing all your favorite songs - it's gonna be a party!!!! 🎉
5. It's an opportunity to share the great work you're doing as a member of our rowing community. In addition to your team's fundraising page, you can send an email sharing how proud you are to be part of this wonderful rowing community. Even if people choose not to donate, they'll learn more about the work happening in our community to bring access and opportunity to rowing for underrepresented populations. What's not to be proud of there? 💥
6. You can see if you can still pull that 1:30 split for a few strokes, or a 10k...this is your opportunity to publicly defend your rowing abilities. Just sayin'...
7. You can make some new friends. If you want to do this but don't have a team, we can hook you up with some others flying solo and you may just make some new best friends or meet the love of your life 💁❤👯
8. You can walk away on 2/8/25 feeling more accomplished than most people will in all of 2025, plus you'll have a really awesome medal around your neck that you can strut straight to brunch with. "Oh yeah, this thing? It's just a little something from my MARATHON row this morning..." 🚣♀️
9. You can get in some QT with your teammates (and by quality time, we mean, sweating on an erg with them).
10. We are all part of this organization, this community, and the future of our sport. Just by signing up, or by showing up to cheer- you are physically endorsing the work of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation and its community, aiming to bring access to rowing so that all young people can benefit from the sport. 💖
Definitely not going to sign up because you're out of town? No problem, just donate and we'll call it even. :)
P.S. PRO TIP for the registration: If you are putting a team together and you want others to join your team: sign up as the team captain and share your page with them so they can join your team. This allows you to create one fundraising goal and team page. And friendly competition between teams for the highest fundraiser is always encouraged. So are cool marathon team names. We are rowers after all - competitive? Us? What?
