Senior Athlete Spotlight: Josie M

1. When did you start rowing, and why?

One of my favorite babysitters was a rower. She would always speak so highly of it and the positive impact and change it brought for her. The summer before 7th grade, my parents signed me up for a summer camp at a local boathouse. I fell in love with the sport, the sense of community, and the positive changes I saw in myself!

2. What has been your most memorable experience on the team?

Travel regattas! I had the privilege to travel with my team a lot but my favorite trips were Regionals and Nationals. I absolutely loved the large-scale competition and the excitement of fast racing there! I had the opportunity to bond with my teammates on these trips and explore new places!

3. What are your plans this fall?

I will be attending Gonzaga University to row and study engineering management! I am beyond excited about this opportunity and grateful for all those who supported me on the journey to where I am now.

4. What advice would you give to a new athlete in rowing?

Never hesitate to reach out for help. The rowing community is incredibly helpful and welcoming. If you have any questions from technique, to gear, to recruiting, I guarantee some coaches or teammates have been through it and can help.

Also, push yourself because your potential is greater than you think! Rowing is a sport that tests how far you can push yourself, both mentally and physically. You can surpass your expectations and grow!
