Senior Athlete Spotlight: Victor A

1. When did you start rowing, and why?

I started rowing at the start of my sophomore year. I had always been a baseball player. At first, I had no idea what rowing was. I just joined my high school’s team because I thought a girl on the team was cute. I stayed on the team because I developed a passion for the sport, and I met so many great people on the team.

2. What has been your most memorable experience on the team?

My most memorable experience was rowing in the Windermere Cup, the most well-known regatta I have ever raced. Rowing those last 500 meters in the Montlake Cut was one of the most thrilling experiences in my rowing career.

3. What are your plans this fall?

I’m attending Oregon State University and majoring in business administration. I also plan to try out for the Oregon State Men’s rowing team.

4. What advice would you give to a new athlete in rowing?

Work hard for your teammates. Remember that everyone in your boat is doing everything possible to achieve the same goal as you. I know it can be grueling and painful. But if you pull hard for your teammates, they will pull just as hard for you.

“I wouldn't have been able to row this year without the Pocock Foundation and its donors.”
