Scholarships made the difference
Aylin Dutt started rowing for Inglemoor High School in her freshman year.
She became the captain as a junior and helped grow the team to around 70 members, becoming one of the largest sports at the school.
In 2023, the Northshore School District cut all district funding for the crew team, raising the dues from $145 to a whopping $806 a season.
This was a devastating blow to the program and left many athletes unable to afford the increase.
Aylin reached out to the GPRF, informing them of the situation and sharing why the sport, and her team, mean so much to her.
“I care immensely about this program and it has become an internal part of who I am and I know it has changed the lives of so many. The potential for growth and excellence in our program is undoubtedly there. Our program is one of the few that is equitable and affordable since rowing is often an elitist sport. I firmly believe that rowing should be available and equitable to all athletes, regardless of socioeconomic status and the loss of our staff and funding has put that at risk for Inglemoor Crew. I am reaching out specifically to the GPRF because I know our values are in alignment.“
In response, the George Pocock Rowing Foundation jumped into action and helped support those athletes who were no longer able to afford the team dues. The Foundation was able to do this thanks to you, our supportive community, who care about rowing and what it can provide young people.

“Before I started rowing I never felt I could get somewhere in life. I mainly sat in. my bed all day at home. It was like I was walking to nowhere all the time. I wasn't striving for anything. When I first tried out rowing it was different from any sport I've ever done. It was like being together with other people to bring each other to victory. I quickly was able to fall in love with the sport. It requires so much focus and coordination. I love that I can get away from everything to stop and be with my teammates. I can only feel more excited to continue rowing and coxing with LOCR, and to continue to grow with my team. I feel like now I'm working towards something." Scholarship Athlete
